Story 39 - Teenage Project Brings Talent Shows to Lincoln
The Teenage Project's variety shows in Lincoln during the late 1950s and 1960s were a remarkable showcase of youth talent and creativity. With themes like "Imagination" in 1959, these events not only entertained but also supported valuable causes like the Youth Employment Service. The May 22, 1959 article highlights the first ticket sold to Lincoln’s mayor, Bennet Martin.
The 1961 show, "Destination USA," featured a mix of skits from five Lincoln high school and University of Nebraska students, highlighting collaboration across educational levels. The comprehensive involvement in these productions—spanning publicity, costumes, and advertising—demonstrates the commitment and teamwork of everyone involved.
While many NHRI alumni recall their own performances at smaller events, the scale and production quality of these shows were truly impressive. A heartfelt thank you to all the cast members who contributed to these memorable moments in our community's history.
