Story 37 - Dr. William E. Hall Leadership Award
Dr. Hall defined a relationship as “the response one makes to the existence of another.” His definition challenges the assumption that a relationship exists only in the paradigm of two people interacting. It makes a claim that each of us is responsible for every interaction, moment, and opportunity we have with another human being. We have autonomy and control over the openness and energy we share with another, to know and to care for them. Whether we have strong, positive relationships or shallow, transactional relationships, the choice is ours.
The lives of Bob and Edie Wekesser of Lincoln were significantly influenced by Dr. William E. Hall. Because of their close friendship, they conceived this award in his honor, which also generously provides the winner with a $1,000 stipend. The William E. Hall Leadership Award is awarded each year at Annual Recognition Day to one outstanding leader in NHRI of at least junior standing who shows exceptional leadership.
“My experience within NHRI has brought me such joy—as I have had the opportunity to meet and connect with so many phenomenal individuals that have a passion for leadership and serving others. I am proud to be part of such a unique organization that prioritizes investment in relationships and the strength of upcoming generations.”
