Story 20 - Newsletters: Sharing our Story

The Beginning

Sixty-five years ago, just a decade after our program's founding, the first issue of NHRRF Projections was published on December 10, 1959. This milestone marked the beginning of a new era of communication and connection.

In the early years, various projects and committees helped shape the program's purpose and direction. Among them, the Communications Project, producing NHRRF Projections as a monthly publication designed to keep parents and students informed about the Foundation's initiatives and activities.

Projections faced a four-year hiatus before being revitalized through the generosity of Jim Seacrest, publisher of the North Platte Telegraph-Bulletin. During college, Jim served as Staff Photographer for Projections in college.

Then in a memo dated in 1969, a new name for the newsletter was proposed: Project. However, it eventually retained its identity as Projections before later evolving into Ripples.

Embracing Technology - Transition to Digital

Despite the ever-increasing costs of mailing and the challenge of incorrect addresses, the program has remained steadfast in sharing news with its stakeholders—thanks to the advent of technology. In 1990, a new MacIntosh computer was gifted to NHRI from the proceeds of Alpha Tau Omega’s annual softball tournament.
